Based on a classic French dish, scalloped potatotoes have become a classic go-to for kiwis in all seasons. It probably falls into the category of a “sometimes’ dish, but its not the same without the butter and the cream giving it that lovely richness.

Goes well with many dishes but especially roast meat, and best served hot!

Instructions
  1. Peel and slice potatoes, make one layer on the bottem of a casserole dish, then sprinkle over some of the flour.
  2. Add some sliced onions, garlic, cream and milk, salt and pepper and butter, keep making layers like this until all the ingredients are gone.
  3. Make sure potatoes are covered to about half way up with the milk and cream, and bake in a hot oven until potatoes are tender and sauce is creamy.
  4. Sprinkle over cheese and return to the oven and grill until golden brown.
