Based on a classic French dish, scalloped potatotoes have become a classic go-to for kiwis in all seasons. It probably falls into the category of a “sometimes’ dish, but its not the same without the butter and the cream giving it that lovely richness.
Goes well with many dishes but especially roast meat, and best served hot!
Instructions
- Peel and slice potatoes, make one layer on the bottem of a casserole dish, then sprinkle over some of the flour.
- Add some sliced onions, garlic, cream and milk, salt and pepper and butter, keep making layers like this until all the ingredients are gone.
- Make sure potatoes are covered to about half way up with the milk and cream, and bake in a hot oven until potatoes are tender and sauce is creamy.
- Sprinkle over cheese and return to the oven and grill until golden brown.
