Apple spice cake is perfect for afternoon tea. This recipe is simple, made essentially in one bowl, and produces a moist and delicious cake.
I think this cake is best served warm with lashings of whipped cream on the side.
For a variation try adding chopped walnuts mixed with brown sugar and cinnamon onto the top of the cake before it goes into the oven.

Can you please tell me what sort of cake tin to use – i.e. a low flatter tray type, or a taller round cake tin?
