Gran's Great Sultana Loaf


This is a really great loaf with no egg and very little butter and is really economical. Keeps well.

Ingredients

  • 500gm sultanas
  • 325 gm brown sugar
  • 2cups water
  • 1 desertspoon butter
  • 1 desertspoon syrup
  • 500gm flour
  • 1 teaspoon mixed spice
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda

Directions

  1. Boil sultanas, brown sugar in the water for 6 to 7 minutes.
  2. Add butter, syrup.
  3. Cool for 45 minutes.
  4. Add flour, mixed spice and baking soda.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Put into 2 loaf tins.
  7. Bake at 170 degrees C for 1 hour.
