This super simple and fast chocolate cake in a cup is perfect for dessert in rush! Once you’ve done it a few times, it should take around five minutes from pulling the ingredients out of the pantry, to tucking into a rich and decadent chocolate cake, from a cup.

Instructions
  1. Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
  2. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
  3. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
  4. Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes.
  5. The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
  6. Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
  7. EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

  1. This is huge for a ‘mug’ recipe. I have a 350ml mug. The dry ingredients alone filled 3/4 of the cup. So I transferred it to a Pyrex 500ml jug. When mixed it measured 350ml, when cooked it measured 450ml. You need to downsize the recipe or say it needs to be cooked on a jug.
